Booking choice: The Belém half-day with Jerónimos, from $71 per person. Check dates Tour details
The Padrão dos Descobrimentos, the Monument to the Discoveries, is one of the cheapest big sights in Lisbon. A full ticket costs EUR 10 in 2026 and covers the viewpoint, the exhibition and, on weekends, a short film. Children under 12 and Lisboa Card holders go in free.
Prices and hours below come from the monument's official ticket page, checked in October 2026. One thing surprises most people: none of the Belém tours sold online takes you inside. They stop at the foot of the monument and move on, so the ticket is yours to buy.
The quick answer
A full ticket is EUR 10 (viewpoint, exhibition and film), EUR 5 for ages 13 to 25 and EUR 8.50 over 65. Under 12s and Lisboa Card holders go free. Buy at the ticket office or on BOL, the only official online seller. It is open every day, Mondays included, from 10:00, and a visit takes 45 to 60 minutes.

How much are Padrão dos Descobrimentos tickets in 2026?
EUR 10 for adults, EUR 5 for ages 13 to 25, EUR 8.50 over 65, and free under 12. An exhibition-only ticket costs EUR 5.
The full ticket is the one almost everybody wants, because it includes the terrace. The exhibition-only ticket skips the lift ride to the top and only makes sense if you have been up before.
| Ticket | Full (viewpoint, exhibition, film) | Exhibition only |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | EUR 10.00 | EUR 5.00 |
| Youth 13 to 25 (not Lisbon residents) | EUR 5.00 | EUR 2.50 |
| Over 65 (not Lisbon residents) | EUR 8.50 | EUR 4.30 |
| Persons with specific needs | EUR 7.00 | Reduced |
| Children under 12 | Free | Free |
| Lisboa Card holders | Free | Free |
Source: the official ticket page. The youth and senior rates apply to visitors from outside the municipality of Lisbon, which means most tourists. Bring ID if you claim one. Some tour listings still quote an older adult price of EUR 8.50; that figure is out of date.
What does the EUR 10 ticket include?
The lift to the sixth floor and the rooftop viewpoint, the exhibition on floor -1, and the film, which only runs on weekends and holidays.
- The viewpoint: a lift to the sixth floor, then 42 steps up a narrow stair to the terrace. From the top you see the wind rose, Jerónimos, the 25 de Abril Bridge and Belém Tower.
- The exhibition: in 2026 it is PADRÃO. House-Obsession (17 May to 30 December 2026), about how the monument itself has been drawn, copied and sold since 1940.
- The film: shown on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 11:15 and 16:00. On a weekday there is no screening.
Plan around the 16:00 weekend screening if the film matters to you. Go up first, come down for the film, and the light on the river will have softened by the time you leave.

Who gets in free or with a discount?
Children under 12, Lisboa Card holders and Passe Cultura holders go in free, and Lisbon residents are free on Sundays and holidays until 14:00.
The discounts most visitors can use:
- Under 12: free, no paperwork.
- Ages 13 to 25: EUR 5, half price.
- Over 65: EUR 8.50.
- Lisboa Card: free entry. The card costs EUR 31 for 24 hours in 2026 and also covers Jerónimos, Belém Tower and the tram or train to Belém. Our post on the Lisboa Card in Belém does the maths.
Accredited journalists, teachers, tourism professionals and ICOM members also go free with proof. The resident-only offers need a Lisbon address on your ID.

The story first: a guide, the Jerónimos ticket, a pastel tasting and 20 minutes at the foot of the Padrão. Then buy your EUR 10 ticket and go up.
Explore the Belém half-day with Jerónimos Tour detailsShould you buy Padrão tickets online or at the door?
Either works. BOL is the only official online seller, and the ticket office at the monument sells the same ticket at the same price.
The monument names BOL as its only authorised online agent. Buying there saves a few minutes at the desk on busy summer afternoons, nothing more. There is no timed-slot system here like the one at Belém Tower, so a ticket at the door is the easy choice for most people.
Skip third-party resellers with a mark-up. And treat any listing that sells the Padrão as skip-the-line with suspicion: the official ticket is the only way in, and there is no faster lane to buy.

What are the Padrão dos Descobrimentos opening hours?
Daily 10:00 to 18:00 from October to February (last entry 17:30), and 10:00 to 19:00 from March to September (last entry 18:30).
It closes on 1 January, 1 May, and 24, 25 and 31 December. It does not close on Mondays, which makes it the best Monday plan in Belém: Jerónimos and Belém Tower are both shut that day.
Check the contacts and schedules page on the morning you go. Short closures do happen; in October 2026 the monument shut from 18 to 20 October for technical issues. Winter details are in our post on the 2026-27 winter hours.
Two hours of Belém on foot with a guide, pastéis included, and still time for the terrace before closing.
Check dates for the Belém walk with pastéisHow long does a visit to the Padrão take?
45 to 60 minutes for the lift, the terrace and the exhibition. Add the film on a weekend and the wind rose outside, and it is closer to 90.
Give the terrace 15 to 20 minutes; it is small, and that is enough to walk all four sides. The exhibition takes another 20 or so. Walking the wind rose and the map of the voyages outside is free and takes as long as you like.
Arrive at least 30 minutes before last entry. The lift is the only way up for most people, and you want time at the top rather than a rush back down.

Is the Padrão dos Descobrimentos wheelchair accessible?
Partly. A lift reaches the exhibition and the sixth floor, but the viewpoint is up 42 steps and is not wheelchair accessible.
- Entrance: two flights of stairs (9 steps, then 6). A stair lift for manual wheelchairs can be arranged in advance.
- Inside: the lift serves the exhibition room on floor -1 and goes up to floor 6.
- The terrace: 42 steps from floor 6, and the wall is 1.30 m high. Periscopes are available at reception for seeing over it.
- Other help: braille material, tactile images, audio-described tours, and Portuguese Sign Language visits by booking.
Details from the official accessibility page. If the steps are a problem, the person-with-specific-needs ticket costs EUR 7, and the exhibition plus the view from floor 6 still gives you a good look over the river.
Does any Belém tour include a Padrão ticket?
No. Every Belém tour on Viator stops outside the monument, for 5 to 30 minutes, or passes it without stopping. None goes up.
That is fine, as long as you know it. A tour adds the story of the figures, a Jerónimos ticket on some, pastéis and transport. Then you buy the EUR 10 ticket yourself.
